Juvéderm Voluma™

*Individual results may vary

Juvederm Voluma™ is a newer,  FDA-approved dermal filler formulated specifically to add volume to the face around  the cheeks and mid-face. This particular HA filler provides a subtle, natural enhancement to the mid-face, addressing contour changes that occur over time. Juvederm Voluma can help rejuvenate facial contour  by adding additional volume to the part of the face that is often volume deficient as a result of the aging process.

Juvederm Voluma is not only effective,  but also is long lasting as well. Treatments may last up to 18 months, occasionally longer*.

The active ingredient in Juvederm Voluma is hyaluronic acid (HA),  which is a substance naturally produced within the skin. Aging results in decreased levels of HA in the dermis of the skin, resulting in decreased facial volume and sagging, deflated cheeks. Juvederm Voluma integrates into the tissues of the skin to offer greater support and elasticity. This can result in noticeable smoothing and increased firmness to the skin, and improved facial definition.

Good Candidates for Juvederm Voluma Treatment

Adults of any age who notice changes to their mid-face or at the chin or jaw line may be considered good candidates for treatment with  Juvederm Voluma. Typical early signs of aging may include a visible decrease in volume, a sagging of the cheeks or the loss of noticeable contour around the chin. While these are more common problems that people face as they age,  younger men and women may experience them as well due to weight loss, heredity or a number of other factors.

The Juvederm Voluma Procedure

Juvederm Voluma injections typically take about ten minutes to administer. The gel formula already contains lidocaine to minimize discomfort, so there is no need for additional anesthesia.  Juvderm Voluma provides the greatest benefit when placed into the deeper layers underneath the skin’s surface.

The results are visible immediately after placement of Voluma*.  There is no downtime required after treatment.  You may go back to your usual daily activities immediately after treatment with Juvederm Voluma.

Juvederm Voluma Side Effects

Like all injectable fillers, treatment is considered safe, however, sometimes there can be mild side effects. Some of these may include bruising, redness, swelling, itching, tenderness, the formation of a lump, or discoloration at the site where placed. Although unusual, these issues usually resolve on their own within a few weeks*.

How is Juvederm Voluma™ XC Different than Other Dermal Fillers?

Every Juvederm soft tissue fillers like Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC were made using what's referred to as Hylacross technology. This manufacturing method placed hyaluronic acid compounds and strands of equal molecular weight and length within the gel base. The strands are linked up in a cross-weave pattern known as cross-linking. What this accomplished was to create more space between the strands of hyaluronic acid that drew in water molecules. The longevity of these Juvederm fillers is about 12 months.

Juvederm Voluma XC is made usng Vycross technology. This manufacturing method includes the use of various molecular weights and HA strand lengths, resulting in a tighter cross-link pattern and less space in which to draw in water. The tighter cross-linking of Voluma gives it more structural viscosity, making it ideal for contouring areas of the face like the cheeks and chin. It also extends its lifespan to up to 24 months.

Is Juvederm Voluma™ XC Used for Men?

Juvederm Voluma XC is an incredible treatment option for men! Its structural density makes it ideal for restoring or creating the sharper angles of the male face. In addition to lifting and contouring the cheeks, thereby lifting jowls, this filler can address one of the key elements of the masculine face, the jawline. Whether your jawline has soften due to tissue laxity or your chin has never been as strong and prominent as you'd like, you can enjoy a more defined facial appearance using Voluma.

It's important that men receive dermal filler injections by a properly trained medical provider who is familiar not only with Juvederm products but also with the facial anatomy that creates a more masculine or feminine appearance. We're happy to sit with you to discuss how we use Juvederm Voluma XC in specific areas to bring more symmetry and aliveness to the face.

Can I Combine Juvederm Voluma™ XC with Other Treatments?

It's become common practice to combine various injectable treatments. Doing so can render more dramatic effects. Based on your desired outcome and the concerns you want to address, we may suggest combining Voluma with other, softer dermal fillers. This combination can add contours to your cheeks or jawline and also smooth lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, plump the lips, and accomplish more profound rejuvenation. Voluma can also be combined with BOTOX for full face rejuvenation, with Kybella to sculpt the jawline more significantly, or even with skin tightening or resurfacing treatments. Here in our Long Island office, you can expect to receive care that takes your overall appearance into consideration!

What if I Don't Like the Results of My Injectable Cheek Augmentation?

Our team is trained to achieve natural-looking results using a wide variety of Juvederm products. Our conservative and skilled use of Juvederm Voluma is intended to subtly enhance the mid-face or jawline without altering your overall appearance. You'll look like You, only better! That said, if you are not completely happy with the outcome of your Juvederm injections, this particular filler can be dissolved. Your provider can inject the treated area with Hyaluranidase, a naturally occurring enzyme, to break down the hyaluronic acid in Juvederm Voluma within about 24 to 48 hours.
